Fountain FAQ
Q: Can I use tap water in my fountain?
A: No. Most indoor fountain pumps require the use of distilled water to prevent mineral build-up and, in addition, the minerals in tap water may stain your fountain and interfere with the natural development of its patina. We do not recommemd the use of fountain water treatments. Distilled water is inexpensive and easily obtained at your grocery store. Its use will protect your pump and the beauty of your fountain.

Q: How can I prevent fountain splashing?
A: There are two things you can do: (1) Adjust your pump. Most fountain pumps are adjustable and lowering your pumps output may solve the problem. (2) The rocks in your fountains's basin may require rearranging. A few minor adjustments made while your fountain is on (so you can see immediately if they worked) should eleminate the splashing.

Q: Where can I display my fountain?
A: Dark Matter Fine Art creates only indoor fountains at this time and, therefore, these fountains use pumps approved for indoor use only. In addition, all fountains splash. We design our fountains to splash as little as possible when they have been properly adjusted (see preceding question), however, it is best not to display your fountain on fragile or irreplaceable furniture or shelving. It also should be noted that small children and pets may be tempted to play in the fountain if it is within their reach.

Q: Where can I find a replacement pump?
A: Dark Matter Fine Art stocks replacement pumps for all of its fountains and you can order one by contacting us at clystlund@darkmatterinc.tv. Please include the name of your fountain with your request so that we can send you the correct pump.

Q: How do I clean my fountain?
A: For best results, read the instructions that came with your fountain. If you no longer have these instructions, you may contact us at clystlund@darkmatterinc.tv and we will e-mail you a new set. We will need to know the name of your fountain in order to send you the correct cleaning instructions. Some of our fountains have a finish that would be harmed by the use of metal polish, which is why we enclose specific instructions with each fountain. All of our fountains can be cleaned in the following manner: (1) wash the fountain with gentle soap (we use Ivory dishwashing liquid) and warm water, (2) rinse thoroughly under warm running water, (3) dry and polish with a soft cloth. Under general use your fountain will require infrequent cleaning.
